RIO Training Requirements
Upon hiring, employees are required to go through the RIO basic Health and Safety Certification safety training before beginning work.
After completion of the Basic training employee will receive Certification card and will be authorized to be on a RIO job site.
RIO BASIC TRAINING
- Rigging and Equipment Basics: Watch NATE video and review RIO's equipment and rigging basics.
- RF Security Awareness: Watch NATE video and review RIO's RF safety policies.
- Emergency Action Plan: Watch video and complete review and test on RIO's EAP.
- Defensive Driving: Watch video.
- Gin Pole Procedure: Watch NATE video and review parts and procedures of Gin pole operation.
- First Aid: Watch Video and complete test over information.
- Personnel Hoisting: Watch NATE video and complete test over info.
- Authorized Climber: Attend 8 hour ComTrain or CITCA training course and pass written and practical test.
- Review RIO safety forms: Daily JSA, PPE inspection forms, Master job safety analysis.
RIO INTERMEDIATE TRAINING
- Forklift operation: Attend 6 hour training course and pass written and practical test.
- CPR/AED: Attend training course and complete and pass test.
- First Aid course: Attend training course and complete and pass test.
- OSHA 10 hour: Attend training course.
- Rigging Safety: Attend CITCA training course and complete and pass test.
- RF Safety: Attend CITCA training course and complete and pass test.
RIO ADVANCED TRAINING
- Advanced Tower rescue and competent climber: Attend 3 day CITCA training course and complete and pass written and practical exam.
- Hoist Operator: Attend 8 hour CITCA training course and pass written exam, log 20 hours of supervised operation of each hoist for certification. (as needed)
- OSHA 30 hour: Attend training course
- Advanced Rigging: Attend 8 hour RIO course and complete practical exam.
In addition to this training, customer and site specific training may also be required (i.e. NBC, B&V, AT&T, Richland, etc.) These entities all have their own training and will be specific to the job.
